Let me tell you here and now, if you are overwhelmed by all these abbreviations, sometimes mix them up or not even know what they all mean, it is completely fine! And you are completely normal.
I don’t know of any other industry that uses the number of abbreviations as the sustainable apparel and fashion industry does. Do you?
And this is just the top of the iceberg, these are just a few examples that I came up with, giving it a 5-minute think.
The first time I heard EMF is still stuck in my mind.
We had recently started the collaboration with the Ellen MacArther Foundation and I wasn’t really up to date about who they were.
My colleague who managed the relationship with them started talking about them in our management group meeting and everyone was nodding away, humming agreeingly. I had no idea who we were talking about.
After a while I gathered the courage and asked who they were.
And of course, no one was laughing, they just explained, and we moved on.
It can be hard to ask about what seem to be the obvious to everyone else.
But from experience I have learned that it is better to ask, then not to.
