When I used to hear this kind of excuses in regards to more sustainable practices from colleagues around me, I was getting ready to punch someone.
They didn’t see that they had the ownership, and I didn’t see that I had the responsibility to give it to them.
Siloed accountability and lack of ownership with the masses to do things more sustainably, is a big reason to why so many companies are still struggling to get it right.
And why so many sustainability professionals are feeling stuck with no progress.
That is why the designated sustainability person’s main focus always should be to increase ownership of the question, not to execute the solutions of it.
